Thousands of people are diagnosed with blood cancers, sickle cell anemia, or other diseases that can be treated with a bone marrow or cord blood transplant from a matching donor. The National Marrow Donor ProgramĀ® (NMDP) provides bone marrow and umbilical cord blood transplants to patients in need. Through their Be The Match registry program, NMDP now has the largest list of potential marrow donors and donated cord blood units in the world. 70% of patients needing bone marrow or cord blood transplants will not find a suitable match among their family members. The registry fills that gap with potential donors throughout the world.
Please note that Be The Match registrants must be between the ages of 18 and 44 and meet eligibility guidelines. Committed potential donors between the ages of 18 and 44 years old can join Be The Match Registry through Delta Blood Bank at any one of our donation sites. For locations and hours, click here. Potential donors between 45 and 60 years of age can join the Be the Match Registry online.
As a non-profit organization, Be The Match also raises funds to help provide transplants to all patients through their foundation. Be The Match pays approximately $100 for each registered donor, which covers enrollment and communication expenses. To help save even more lives, please give generously to Be The Match at www.bethematch.org.
